Carrera Mikrograph 100th

2010.12.11

The 2011 Tag Heuer Carrera Mikrograph, a purely mechanical watch accurate to 1/100th of a second, was designed with the intention to be a timeless classic.

The original Heuer Mikrograph stopwatch was unchanged for 60 years, and our aim was to channel the same enduring aesthetics into the 2011 model.

The most notable feature is the easy to read chronograph scale on the outside edge of the dial indicating tenths and hundredths of a second.  The wide spacing of the counters with respect to the centre makes for increased readability and creates a more dynamic shape, with the lower counter eating into the white flange.

We opted for classic printing on the face, contrasting with modern typography numerals diverging away from more modern approaches of applied indexes and minute scales. The oversized 100 marker at 12 is given centre stage, and extra space is created by cutting into the central dial.

The result is a true hybrid of classic and modern. A fusion of stopwatch and watch. The Carrera Mikrograph is a true homage to Tag Heuer’s prestigious past.
