TAG Heuer Carrera Lady

The brand was aware that women liked the Carrera's clean, good looks. As the Swiss watch marque's London-based design Christoph Behling explains, " We had started to see it on women's wrists, which led us to think of creating a ladies' model."

So now, just launched, we have the brand-new Carrera Lady, a line offering a variation of 12 models. Its looks owe more to vintage styling and the original 1963 men's models than TAG's current timepieces. "There are no complicated curves and no unnecessary dial embellishments bar a date window," Behling says. "We also faceted the hands to make them particularly elegant. Overall, the look is very pure and uncluttered."

So what about the racing heritage that has proved so attractive to the male market? At the suggestion that women are unlikely to buy so wholeheartedly into the association, Behling is quick to point out Heuer's other (and less quoted) original inspiration. "In fact Jack was also inspired by modernist architecture in the 1960s, hence the clarity and readability of the design. It wasn't just the race, but also the buildings of the time that influenced him profoundly."
