Christoph Behling founded SolarLab Research & Design in 2006 to formalise his commitment to solar powered design.

SolarLab is widely recognised as a pioneer in the field of sustainable transport design and the world’s leading solar designer for ships and beyond.
Over 40 yachts and ferries have been designed, built, and are in use today, in Europe and the US.

Amongst them is the world’s largest solar passenger ferry currently carrying up to 120 passengers across Hamburg. The Serpentine SolarShuttle, launched in London in July 2006, has become an international icon of sustainable design.

We believe that change needs to be inspired, not forced, to embrace a green future. SolarLab Research + Design, an extension of Chistoph Behling Design, combines award winning luxury product design with a vision for the future of solar energy, delivering revolutionary transport and product solutions.

THE POWER OF DESIGN

Visibility and recognition is not a matter of marketing budget but of design quality and true innovation.

Design has created a whole new category of products and it has helped to inspire millions, though press, television articles and blogs. The ROI (return on investment) on the PR is astronomical.

The total build and design cost of the Serpentine Solarshuttle was less than half a million USD yet it has created PR ROI worth more than 20 million USD.
