Frictionless
One of the studio favourites, the Grand Carrera Pendulum is a great example of what Tag Heuer do best. They take a technology that is seen as unchangeable and completely reinvent it. The Pendulum is the first watch not to use a strung balance wheel to regulate time. It uses magnetic fields. The result is a watch that regulates time far more precisely due to the lack of friction from a spring.

Point of interest
We went through many variations throughout the design process but from an early stage we knew it was all about the Pendulum. Everything else about the design was based on Carrera watch architecture. By making all the watch elements dark in colour it enabled the Pendulum to stand out from the background and get the attention it deserved, |

Design of Nothingness
Designs role in a concept project like this is to express the new technology clearly. The problem with this innovation was that there was nothing to see so therefore nothing to design. We wanted people to see and appreciate this innovation so we introduced the idea of the Pendulum. The Pendulum swings back and forth physicalizing and otherwise invisible force.
