The case and dial: designed for the fastest chronographs ever made

In 2011, TAG Heuer finalised its research on high frequency movements, using a new mechanical component which vibrates at precisely 7.2 Million beats per hour.

The Mikrogirder is by far the fastest, most precise chronograph ever made.

1st design challenge: readability
The speed of the movement is lost if you cannot read the elapsed time. The design focused on logic and impeccable readability, something which has perfected by Heuer over the last 60 years.

 
 
 

2nd design challenge
How do you create a groundbreaking design to lead TAG Heuer into the next century? Taking inspiration from iconographic Heuer stopwatches we created a new two part case which connected the past to TAG Heuer’s future.

Moving the crown and pushers to the top allows the same ease of access as a handheld stopwatch. The improved ergonomics were enhanced by angling the case backwards by 14 degrees, just enough to improve the readability of this instrument.

 
 
 

The new case sits comfortably on the wrist, with improved ergonomics through our new design of the case. The design was driven by innovation and logic, but the result of this logic is visually stunning, proven by its exposure on the cover of most watch magazines in 2012.
 
 
 
The Mikrogirder 2000 was launched two months earlier in January 2012.
